Cub uniform consists of a green sweatshirt with your badges sewn on and a coloured scarf or ‘necker’ to represent your local group. There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts.
Why uniform is important?
Wearing a uniform is comfy and practical. It means no one feels uncomfortable or left out and helps everyone feel part of the Pack. It also gives you a place to show off all the badges you earn.
Where can I buy the uniform?
Uniform can either be bought from The Scout Store – or from a local supplier like Skoolkit. If you’re stuck, ask adult volunteers to tell you more about what to buy and where to buy it. If cost is an issue, they will be more than happy to help. You only need to buy a sweatshirt, your Necker, Woggle and Badges will be provided.
Here’s where to sew on those badges…

What should I wear with my Uniform?
If you choose not to wear a 1st Locksheath Activity top, any t-shirt or polo shirt will do. Most of the time, bottom half is up to you – we suggest something comfy, and weather-appropriate, as well as suitable for the activities you are doing. Tracksuit trousers, school trousers or shorts are all good. We don’t recommend jeans, as they take ages to dry, and provide little warmth.
Try not to wear anything new, as there’s often mud, paint, cooking ingredients, glue, felt tips etc involved at Cubs!
Suitable shoes will usually be trainers or school shoes – nothing that will fall off, and no open toes. On occasion your leaders might suggest wellies or hiking boots if you have them, such as for outdoor activities or hikes.
Is that smart enough?
Most of the time, yes. On parade (twice a year) we ask that School trousers or skirt (Black, Grey or Navy) and Polished black school shoes are worn, but the rest of the time, it’s all about comfort and practicality.
How about accessories?
There are lots of other optional accessories you can wear such as hats, hoodies, navy blue trousers or shorts, if you’d like to but they are not needed.
What about those purple tops I’ve seen?
1st Locks Heath have their own “Activity Top”, which is an embroidered purple polo shirt worn by members of all sections, and leaders and supporters too! Have a look here!
