When should I put my child on the waiting list?
- You can put your child on our waiting list from birth!
- We welcome all children regardless of age, gender, ability, or specific needs
- You should add your child as soon as you, or they, realise they may have an interest in scouting, even if you aren’t sure – there is no obligation to take a place, just because one comes available, and you can always try it and see.
- You should add your child even if you are on another waiting list for a different group – there is no saying when either may have a free space for you.
How do I join the waiting list?
Our waiting list is a simple online form, which adds you on to the software we use (online Scout Manager) to manage all our data, It is secure, safe, and fully GDPR compliant, and we do not share your information with anyone.
You can join our waiting list here.
When do I get offered my child’s place?
Three times a year, usually a week or two before the start of a new term, we will review our waiting lists, and see who we can offer places to.
Our eligibility criteria are very straightforward:
- The child will become of age before or during the next term (relevant ages are: Beavers – 6 years old, Cubs – 8 years old, Scouts 10 1/2 years old) with their birthday before the start of the next term after that. Terms are the Hampshire School Terms as published on hants.gov.uk.
We then look at available spaces in each section. We are lucky enough to have two Beaver Colonies, and two Cub Packs, so if we have vacancies in both sections, you may be asked to choose which will fit best for you.
We will then email the parents of eligible children, based on availability.
If we have less spaces than eligible children, we offer in the order that you joined the waiting list.
You then email us back with acceptance, or otherwise, and, if applicable, your choice of section. We then transfer your child from the waiting list into the relevant section.
Joining the section:
After your details are passed to your new section, the section leaders will then start to email you with information that you will need, including when, where, the programme, and so on. You should now look at the pages on “Joining a Section“
